✦ How It Works

What a Permanent System Actually Is

A permanent system is a low-profile track mounted along the roofline, under the eave or along the fascia, with LED lights set into it at regular intervals. The track is color-matched to your trim, so in daylight it reads as part of the house rather than a strand hanging from it. At night the lights are controlled from an app on your phone: any color, any pattern, scenes you save, and schedules so it comes on and goes off without you thinking about it.

The same hardware does Christmas in warm white or multicolor, red-white-and-blue for the Fourth, Halloween, your team's colors on game day, and a plain soft white the rest of the year. Nothing goes up in November and nothing comes down in January.

✦ Permanent vs. Seasonal

The Honest Comparison

Seasonal lighting is priced per season and includes design, install, maintenance, takedown and storage. You pay each year, and the display can change each year. A permanent system costs more upfront because you are buying hardware that stays on the house, and after that there is no annual install, takedown or storage to pay for. Set against the cost of a professional seasonal install every year, a permanent system typically pays for itself in two to three seasons.

There are trade-offs. The track follows the roofline, so a permanent system does the roofline job: it does not wrap trees or net shrubs, and many homeowners keep adding seasonal landscape lighting and wreaths around it in December. It also commits you to one look at the trim line, which is why we spend time on color-matching the track before anything is mounted.

Permanent systems are quoted separately from the three seasonal tiers on the pricing page, as one quote for the whole system.

✦ The Install

What Installation Involves

We measure the roofline and plan the run around the areas you actually want lit, usually the front elevation and any side that is visible from the street or the yard you use. The whole system is quoted upfront: track, lights, controller and installation, in one number. On install day the track is mounted tight to the trim, the runs are connected back to a controller and power supply placed somewhere discreet, and we walk you through the app before we leave so you can set your first scene while the crew is still there.

✦ Timing

Not Tied to the Holiday Calendar

Seasonal installs cluster in October and November. A permanent system is not tied to that calendar and can go up at any time of year. If you want it running for this December, booking ahead of November still matters, since permanent installs are fit around the seasonal schedule once it fills.

✦ Permanent LED Questions

Common Permanent LED Questions

What are permanent LED holiday lights and are they worth it?

Permanent LED systems are installed once and stay on your home year-round. They're nearly invisible during the day and can be programmed to any color or pattern for any holiday or event: Christmas, Fourth of July, Halloween, sports team colors, and more. No more putting lights up and taking them down every year. They typically pay off compared to annual professional installs in two to three seasons.

How much does professional Christmas light installation cost in Louisville KY?

Residential holiday lighting in Louisville typically ranges from $750 to $4,500: a single-story roofline at the low end, a two-story home with gables, columns and porch in the middle, and larger homes with trees and landscape at the top. The final number depends on the size of your home, the type of lights (traditional vs. permanent LED), and the complexity of the design. We quote every job upfront with no obligation. See the full pricing guide.

When should I book holiday lighting installation in Louisville?

We recommend booking by October to secure your preferred installation date. Our schedule fills fast, especially for November installs. We take bookings year-round, so the earlier the better.
