Beyond the Roofline

Tree & Landscape Lighting

Roofline lighting is where most displays stop, and it is why so many of them look flat. Wrapping the trees and lighting the beds adds the depth that makes a property read as a whole scene at night instead of a bright line floating above a dark yard.

  • Shrub netting and bed lighting
  • Walkway, driveway, and pathway lighting

✦ What We Light

The Whole Property

✦

Tree Wrapping

Trunks and main limbs wrapped by hand, spiraled evenly so the spacing stays consistent top to bottom.

✦

Shrubs & Beds

Netted shrubs and lit landscape beds fill in the space between the house and the street.

✦

Walks & Drives

Pathways, driveways, and entries lit so the approach to the house is part of the display.

✦

Fully Removed

Everything comes down at the end of the season, with nothing left wrapped around a growing tree.

✦ How Wrapping Works

Trunks, Limbs and Canopy

Tree wrapping is done by hand. We start at the base of the trunk and spiral the run upward with even spacing, then continue out along the main limbs so the structure of the tree shows at night rather than a bright post with dark branches above it. Keeping the spacing consistent from the ground to the top of each limb is what separates a professionally wrapped tree from one that looks tight at the bottom and sparse up high.

A mature tree takes far more light string than a roofline of the same height, because you are covering the surface of a cylinder rather than tracing a line. That is why wrapping two or three good trees is often what moves a display from the middle tier into the top one, and why we recommend choosing the trees that frame the house from the street rather than lighting every tree in the yard.

At the end of the season everything comes off. We never leave wire wrapped around a growing trunk or limb, and every run is coiled, labeled and stored with the rest of your display.

✦ Beyond the Trees

Shrubs, Beds, Walks and Drives

Landscape work is designed together with the roofline, not added after it. The goal is depth: a lit line at the gutter, lit shrubs below it, and wrapped trunks in front, so the house sits inside a scene instead of floating above a dark yard.

✦ Planning

Timing and Cost

Trees and landscape are usually installed on the same visit as the roofline, which is why a full-display property typically takes two days instead of one. Book by October to get your preferred date; pre-Thanksgiving slots fill first. Landscape lighting can also be added to an existing roofline display later in the season if there is room in the calendar.

Trees, shrubs and walkway lighting each add to the total, and they are what most homes in the top tier include. The pricing page shows the three residential tiers and the six things that move a quote.

How much does professional Christmas light installation cost in Louisville KY?

Residential holiday lighting in Louisville typically ranges from $750 to $4,500: a single-story roofline at the low end, a two-story home with gables, columns and porch in the middle, and larger homes with trees and landscape at the top. The final number depends on the size of your home, the type of lights (traditional vs. permanent LED), and the complexity of the design. We quote every job upfront with no obligation.
